The LES Partnership Board submitted a response to the Greater London Authority on the Mayor’s draft Air Quality Strategy, which was published in October for consultation with the London Assembly and functional bodies www.london.gov.uk/mayor/environment/air_quality/.
The Board is supportive of policies to encourage the use of sustainable transport and to increase the uptake of low emission vehicles. However, it would like to see more emphasis on encouraging local authorities and developers to seek low emission developments.
As part of this, the Board recommends reference to the LES Partnership / Defra Guidance document ‘Low Emission Strategies: Using the planning system to reduce transport emissions’. The first round of consultation closed on 30th November 2009. There will be further opportunity to provide comment on a second draft of the Strategy in early 2010.
