DfT launch £1m Infrastructure Grant Programme

June 2009

The Department for Transport (DfT) will be re-launching the Infrastructure Grant Programme this summer. While the final details have yet to be published it is thought that grant funding - totaling £1million over this year and next - will cover electric vehicle charging units and natural gas, biomethane and hydrogen refueling stations.

Applications for grant funding to help towards the costs of installing alternative fuelling points will be welcomed from late July. Cenex have been appointed to run the Infrastructure Grant Programme on behalf of the DfT.

Andrew Whittles, who will act as Programme Manager for Cenex, said: "It has taken a little while to get the necessary approvals in place to launch the programme, however, we are now preparing for invite applications for funding this summer. We anticipate competition for the limited funding that will be made available and applications will be judged against quality criteria to ensure a fair distribution of grants.

“This is a great opportunity for both the public and private sector to secure additional financial assistance to deliver their plans to increase the take-up of alternative fuelled vehicles."

Cenex will be launching the Infrastructure Grant Programme website shortly and there will be an on-line application facility. Anyone wishing to register an interest in the Programme can do so by logging on to www.cenex.co.uk/igp

A series of Information Days to provide further details on how the programme will work are being planned for late July in Glasgow, Birmingham and Baglan, South Wales.
